Look at all the babies!

Sunday day we had an explosion of baby goats. We were getting ready to go to Sunday school so it was about 9:00. Dad went to check on Cassie and he said she was making noises and pawing at the dirt. I went and looked and she looked the same as she did last year, a full week before she kidded. So I thought we would be fine to go to church. Mom wasn't feeling good and dad wasn't ready to go yet so the 5 of us kids left in my car and headed off to Sunday school. Barely 45 mins go by and Daniel comes into my classroom and says to call Dad cause Cassie is kidding (figures huh?). Guess I was wrong about her not being ready lol. I called Dad back and he said that he thought she was having trouble with the 2nd one (she had already had one in the time it took for me to call them back.)  Fortunately I was only 10 minutes away so I went home, changed lightening fast and went to the barn. She ended up doing fine on her own with the 2nd baby, all I had to do was free it from the sac because it didn't pop, but the 3rd one was breach so I helped her out just to make sure the little girl didn't suffocate. Then we were drying off number 3 there came the 4th baby! 4 baby goats, and all does! We were joking the last week or so that she might have three since she was so huge but no one really expected it, and definitely not 4 does.
Later that day Mom and Dad went to town and not 10 minutes after they left another goat started having her babies! Naomi had 2, 6lb does that are nearly identical except for one small brown spot.
What a week, in 4 days we had 3 does kid, a total of 7 does and 2 bucks. They were all due on Thursday, Zippi had hers that day and Cassie and Naomi waited until Sunday to have theirs. We now have 17 goats, 12 does/doelings, 4 bucks/bucklings, and 1 wether.  In 2 years we are going to be overflowing with milk. :)

Baby goats!

Today we had 3 little babies born from one of our 3 year old does, Zippi. She is taking after her mom Annie, she started with twin boys and today she had 2 colorful boys and 1 little girl that looks just like her mama.

Jemima (bottom) and her brothers

We're still working on names for the boys but we decided to name the little girl Jemima. In Hebrew Jemima means Dove.  Any suggestions for the boys? The only requirement is that they are either Hebrew or Biblical.

Breeding season is finally over and I have 5 does due in the spring thanks to my lovely buck, Reuben, who by the way is still for sale. There should be about 13 kids altogether. Since we lost our resident Nubian doe this year all the babies will be Boar/Nubian cross until I get some more does.
